Todd Palin addressed a crowd of 75 fellow sportsmen at a gun club this morning as part of a three-event campaign swing through Pennsylvania.
The husband of the Republican vice presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, told supporters that it is important to have a ticket that "supports our core values -- hunting and fishing." Mr. Palin, who is new to the campaign trail, spoke for only three minutes at the Pitcairn-Monroeville Sportmen's Club.
He then traveled to another planned event at Penn State University's Beaver Stadium in State College. His wife was campaigning separately in Lancaster and Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, was slated to speak tonight in Wilkes-Barre.

I think that Neanderthals shared those same values

But I mean a "CORE VALUE" -- surly not. That's a bit much.
2So an Obama vote is a vote against hunting and fishing
3
4....and camping and hiking and.....the great outdoors in general (not the actual great outdoors -- but like the store).
5
that just may finally be a reason to change my vote
6he was joking- the guy likes to fish and hunt. Hardly neanderthal. Some guys like to play golf and drink beer. Which is less intelligent? God told man to fish and hunt and subdue and enjoy the animals on the earth, He didn't tell man to hit little balls with sticks and drink fermented barley and hopps.
right, dream- he likes the outdoors.
I wonder if Obama even knows how to fish or hunt- he might ruin his "man"icure then, LOL
"If the lion lies down with the lamb, the lamb must be replaced frequently." --Attributed to Martin Luther In the immediate aftermath of the terrorist violence of September 11, 2001.
7"God told man to fish and hunt and subdue and enjoy the animals on the earth, He didn't tell man to hit little balls with sticks and drink fermented barley and hopps." This is YOUR belief and opinion. In my beliefs, animals should be respected and not hunted for sport. Suppose I wrote "If you are going to destroy another life you should do it for moral reasons such as starvation." I am sure that people who enjoy eating meat are going to be highly insulted by that statement and rightfully so as I am telling someone else what to do based on my moral beliefs. Please remember people share different religious and moral beliefs from yours.
8geebers, I wouldn't bother. Closed minded people aren't going to listen to reason.
Did Martin Luther come back to life after 9/11? How did I miss that?
9I would never think that someone who likes to hunt and fish is necessarily less intelligent.
10I wouldn't either. I know loads of highly intelligent people who hunt & fish AND loads of highly intelligent people who play golf & drink beer. Hell, my dad is a genius & he doesn't hunt, fish, drink beer OR play golf. He doesn't have nice nails either.
Of course it was a joke. A poor one, but a joke none the less. I'm just surprised he could fill up all 3 minutes.
11I think everyone should try fishing at least once! But hunting isn't for everybody. Not me, really. But like I said before, if you live in Alaska and don't know how to shoot a gun, you are likely to be eaten by a bear and regret it.
I have a cookbook with 37 recipes for venison. I don't mind cooking, if somebody else does the dirty work!
That's all I have to say about the topic, which wasn't much.
Hi Dream! Thanks for inviting me into your group!
12Have you ever made venison lasagna? Its AWESOME!
13I dated this guy for a couple for years who was very into fishing. I loved to go because I could suntan and look at his super hotness all day without a shirt on.
Yes, fishing is a good thing. And I love eating fish.
14I've tried to like venison in the past, but it's just not my thing.
Sasha, someone once made me venison chili, and it was pretty good. I'd like it better if I didn't think about it.
15Welcome -- you are my BFF after all
Well -- ok -- I fish but yeah hunting is something that I just can't do. If the man was joking it didn't really sound like it -- and manicures -- don't get me started on that core value!!
16
I know what you mean, I try not to think of the faces my food once had
17Venison sticks, sausage, burgers, and stew is allllllll good when seasoned/cooked properly.
If no one told you that's what you were eating you would not be able to tell with what we make here!
18I have not made venison lasagna! it isn't even in my cookbook. Now I have one more use for it!
I haven't had it much since about 2 years ago, when I dated a guy who was a big hunter. He liked venison chili and meatloaf. The venison was just non-stop. My parents used to make the budget go far with deer meat. It can get old for sure.
19Hunting and fishing is a core value, but protecting the environment where the hunting and fishing happens is not one. I see.
20I'll bet the seasoning makes a lot of difference. I had it made by guys in their 20s, so their cooking wasn't very refined yet, lol.
21And since moving to California I haven't had the opportunity. When I'm in back in MN for x-mas it may come up
I love fishing and use to love hunting (when I lived on the farm). I just can't kill and do the cleaning like I use to. But, fishing, so relaxing.
Can any policy, however high minded, be moral if it leads to widespread corruption, imprisons so many, has so racist an effect, destroys our inner cities, wreaks havoc on misguided & vulnerable individuals and brings death and destruction to foreign countries?
22Wren, I get my stuff from 21 year old guys. It's all in who pays attention.
23someone has their realism meter turned off.
He isnt a neanderthal just because he likes to hunt and fish, God forbid something horrible happened globally, most people wouldnt even know the basic skills to survive, I would want to be in Todd Palins neck of the woods myself if that happened.
24Because it's SO obvious he was dead pan serious when he said this.
Come on now people, it was so obviously a Joke!
Fishing is a HUGE staple of life for so many in Alaska. It's how a huge majority of the people in that state make their livelihoods.

25If you always do as you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.
Good GOD -- welcome Conservatives!!
[ I would want to be in Todd Palins neck of the woods myself if that happened.]
That sounds like what Palin's church preaches so you'll be in real good company.
26Hold on!
27Hunting and fishing = Neanderthals?
Seriously?
You've got to be kidding me.
So the man likes to hunt and fish.
Good for him.
He's manly.
What's wrong with that?
I don't know about you but I like a real man.
You'd rather a man who only knows how fiddle with a computer and dial for take out?
No thank you.
I like my men to be real men.
Furthermore, (note to Geebers) most people that hunt do eat their kill.
I'm always amused by meat eaters who wear leather but have a problem with hunting.
I don't have a problem hunting -- I just don't want to do it.
28candycr- you can have both. We are called middle-of-the-roaders.
29"Furthermore, (note to Geebers) most people that hunt do eat their kill.

I also have an issue with meat eaters that have a problem with hunting (forget wearing leather) seeing as they are eating the meat that someone else hunted for them.
I am glad that most people that hunt eat their kill but that doesn't say anything about the hunters that hunt for sport.
I don't consider hunting and fishing "manly" - it just is something that some people do. In my culture people have survived for centuries without hunting or fishing. There are actually vegetarians that CAN survive in the wild.
